What is the ABCD?

The ABCD - Association for Brazilian Bilingual Children's Development Inc. was born from the success of the Brincando Brazilian Playgroup established in Manly, NSW, Australia in 1999.

Its main objective is to assist Brazilian-Australian families and families of Portuguese-speaking children to conquer the challenges of bilingual upbringing in Australia. The ABCD is a not-for-profit organisation.

It counts with an Advisory Board consisting of professionals from the areas of pedagogy, psychology and linguistics, as well as representatives of the Brazilian community in Australia.

What does the ABCD do?

It is the entity that offers Brazilian Portuguese language-based children's activities, such as Portuguese language classes, a bilingual pre-school program, playgroup and library, each with its own goals and responsibilities. Click on the faces above to learn about them.

Join Us

The ABCD is a not-for-profit volunteer parent organisation which survives from donations, event entry fees and annual membership fees.

ABCD members enjoy many benefits, such as exclusive free access to the library, discounts at paid events, subscription to the Brincando quarterly newsletter and regular email updates and invitations.

Membership costs $20 per family per year or $50 for three years. Organization membership (eg other Portuguese-language playgroups) pay $50 per year (July to June Financial Year). Members joining after April in any year, receive three months free membership.
